White Paper: The global civilian drone market is expected to reach 500 billion yuan by 2025
The "White Paper on the Development of General Aviation Industry (2022)" released by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) shows that the global civil drone market maintains high-speed growth, and the market size is expected to reach 500 billion yuan by 2025.
The White Paper points out that the global civilian drone market size exceeded 160 billion yuan in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 61.6%, of which industrial grade drones accounted for about 60%. With the continuous expansion of downstream application fields, it will continue to grow in the future and is expected to reach 500 billion yuan by 2025.
It is worth noting that as more high-value industrial grade drones are applied to production and daily life, the market share of consumer grade drones, which once dominated the market, is decreasing year by year. The White Paper predicts that by 2025, the market share of industrial grade drones will exceed 80%.
In recent years, China has rapidly grown into a manufacturing and technological powerhouse in the drone industry, with drone sales accounting for 70% of the global market share. The White Paper points out that according to industry regulatory authorities, in 2020, there were over 1300 civil unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) research and development enterprises in China, with private enterprises accounting for the vast majority, and more than 10 enterprises with sales of over 100 million yuan. As of the end of 2021, over 12000 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) general aviation enterprises in China have obtained general aviation operating licenses.
In terms of global general purpose aircraft, the White Paper pointed out that the global general purpose aircraft market declined in 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19, but in 2021, with the impact of the epidemic gradually reducing, the global general aviation market ushered in a rebound. In 2021, a total of 3456 general aircraft were delivered worldwide, a year-on-year increase of 9.2%, with a total value of $25.3 billion. The delivery volume of general aircraft has exceeded the pre pandemic level in 2019.
From the perspective of segmented markets, delivery of various aircraft models rebounded in 2021, with significant growth in turboprop general aircraft and helicopters, both increasing by over 20% year-on-year. Delivery of jet business jets and piston general aircraft increased by 10.2% and 6.2% respectively.
It is worth mentioning that emerging industrialized countries have become important markets for the development of general aviation. The White Paper shows that Brazil and South Africa are the earliest emerging market countries to develop the general aviation market, with a total of over 10000 general aviation aircraft. The BRICS countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, have a total of approximately 45000 general-purpose aircraft, accounting for about 10% of the global market share, and have great potential for future market development.
Currently, continuing the global trend of industrial transfer, the proportion of high-end manufacturing, including general aviation manufacturing, shifting from developed countries to developing countries has been increasing year by year. The White Paper points out that China and India are regarded by many general aircraft manufacturers as the countries with the greatest market potential in the future.
