The opening ceremony of the 2024 World Drone Racing Championship was held in Hangzhou
The World Drone Racing Championship is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world's highest level drone racing event. It is also the fourth international high-level event to be held in Hangzhou, following the Hangzhou Tennis Open, Hangzhou Golf Open, and International Canoe Super Cup, which are three top international events.
With the hosting of this event in Hangzhou, this is already the third time that the World Drone Racing Championship has settled in China. This competition attracted 111 drone pilots from 32 countries to participate.
From November 1st to 3rd, the Shangcheng District Sports Center will officially welcome the first "flight" of the 2024 World Drone Racing Championship. 111 contestants will compete in three stages: qualification, elimination, and final, to win the championship glory in four categories including national team, individual group, youth group, and women's group. It is worth mentioning that night races were scheduled on November 1st and 2nd, with fast-moving drones and a colorful cyberpunk track. When the drones quickly cross the "Bagua Tian", it is definitely the "complete form" of the drone viewing experience.
Hangzhou is one of the first civil unmanned aerial testing bases of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and also the earliest city in China to explore commercial operation of unmanned aerial vehicles in urban scenarios. It has initially established a low altitude economic industry development ecology. The successful hosting of this World Drone Racing Championship will lead the development of urban low altitude economy to new heights.
